Back to their Roots

Dear Team Life Remodeled,

Detroit has grown many of the world’s most famous musicians, sports figures, and leaders. It was also the city that brought a lot of great music to our ears and gave the world the automobile. And while the city has struggled for some time to retain talent, it has never lacked the ability to produce it.

In 2009, Time Magazine called Detroit “an icon of the failed American city,” but in recent years we’ve earned the title “America’s Comeback City.”

Last week, Crain’s Detroit Business held its fourth annual “Detroit Homecoming” event—the purpose of which is to inspire former Detroiters to re-invest in Detroit. Their action-packed schedule included visits to three neighborhoods, and Life Remodeled had the honor of leading participants on an experiential tour of our current project, the Durfee Community Innovation Center.

We made sure to show and tell them about the great things that are happening because of your support, and they were amazed!  We also engaged them in brainstorming exercises to solve issues and generate new opportunities.

After three hours of immersive learning, excitement and engagement, the expats got back on their busses and eventually flew “home.”  The smiles on their faces and their words of gratitude showed that they left inspired… Maybe you could even say some of them were “remodeled?”

Your support is allowing us to create what is about to become one of the most impactful projects in Detroit.  If you’d like to come see the progress, or maybe even lend a hand for a couple hours, just let me know.

Actually, I’m about to hop on a plane to San Diego and pitch Life Remodeled to more than 100 philanthropists who each donate at least $200,000 per year to charities. Please say a prayer for me, and if you send me a note I’ll get back to you when I return on Monday.

Lastly, you may want to take one minute and 21 seconds to watch this recap video of the expats’ experience at the Community Innovation Center.

Passionate about the Future of Detroit,
