On March 13, 2025, Detroit’s iconic 313 Day, nearly 1,000 K-12 students from Durfee Elementary-Middle School and Central High School participated in our annual Career Vision Day, an immersive career exploration event co-hosted by Life Remodeled and staff from both Durfee Elementary Middle School and Central High School.

With more than 50 companies and organizations in attendance, students engaged with industry professionals, participated in hands-on activities and explored diverse career paths. This interactive experience aimed to equip students with the knowledge and connections necessary to navigate their future careers, whether through college, skilled trades or direct workforce entry.

Career Vision Day provided students with invaluable exposure to various professions, helping them gain insights into potential career options. Universities and college support organizations, including the Detroit Promise, were also on-site to offer guidance on post-secondary education and career readiness resources.

The event wasn’t just for older students—our youngest learners had a day filled with discovery as well! Kindergarten through second-grade students enjoyed an engaging Mad Science presentation, sparking curiosity with hands-on STEM activities. Additionally, Chief James Harris of the Detroit Fire Department visited classrooms to teach fire safety in a fun and memorable way.

In Detroit, many young people face challenges in accessing stable employment due to limited exposure to career pathways and professional networking opportunities. Career Vision Day aimed to change that by providing direct connections between students and employers eager to invest in the city’s youth.

More than just an informational event, Career Vision Day encouraged students to envision a brighter future and take tangible steps toward achieving their goals. As we work together to continue efforts to improve educational outcomes and employment opportunities for students and their families, events like this play a critical role in empowering the next generation.

This impactful day would not have been possible without the partnership of the corporations that attended the event. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to:

A special thank you also goes out to the Life Remodeled Youth Alliance (LRYA) students, Durfee/Central teachers & staff and LR team members who dedicated their time and effort to make this event a success. Your hard work and commitment did not go unnoticed!

The Life Remodeled Youth and Community Engagement department remains committed to fostering educational excellence and community support at Durfee/Central and beyond. Career Vision Day is just one of the many ways we create meaningful opportunities for students and families.
